the reset mind & body approach
what is mind & body work?
Mind and body, also known as somatic, work recognises that mental health is not only experienced through thoughts, but also through the body and nervous system. Stress, trauma, anxiety and emotional overwhelm can all affect breathing, movement, tension and how people relate to themselves physically.
Somaia uses body-based approaches such as strength training, breathwork, cold exposure and movement to support mental and physical wellbeing. These approaches help people reconnect with themselves, regulate their nervous system and build confidence through direct experience.
understanding mental health through a mind and body lens
Traditional mental health support often focuses on thoughts, feelings and behaviour. While this can be helpful, lasting change often requires more than talking alone.
The RESET Model recognises that emotions are experienced in the body as well as the mind. By combining psychological education with structured physical activity and somatic practices, it supports people to develop practical tools for regulation, resilience and long-term wellbeing.
the reset approach to mind and body
Our integrative model supports people to improve their mental and physical wellbeing by working with both mind and body. Here’s how:
1. Building confidence through strength training
Strength training helps people feel stronger, more capable and more connected to their body. Delivered in a safe and supportive environment, it becomes a route into confidence, resilience and self-belief.
2. Regulating the nervous system through breathwork
Breathwork helps people develop awareness of their nervous system and learn practical ways to manage stress, anxiety and emotional overwhelm.
3. Using physical activity to support mental health
Physical activity improves mood, reduces stress and supports healthier routines. Movement is used as a practical way to help people reconnect with themselves and build sustainable habits.
4. Releasing stored stress and tension
Stress and trauma can be held in the body. Somatic practices, including breathwork, movement and cold exposure, offer safe ways to release tension and build a greater sense of calm and control.
5. Rebuilding connection and purpose
Shared physical activity reduces isolation and creates meaningful connection. The approach emphasises community, encouragement and belonging.
A New Path to Strength and Wellbeing
Mental health is not only something experienced through thought, it is experienced through the body. With the right support, people can reconnect with themselves, build confidence and develop healthier ways of managing stress, emotion and physical wellbeing. The RESET model supports people to build confidence through strength training and movement, develop tools for nervous system regulation, and reconnect with their body, community and sense of purpose.
